Academics - Annual Promotion Policy

The annual promotion policy requires middle school students to pass language arts, math, science, and social studies. By the end of the eighth grade, students must:
  • Complete three middle school language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies annual courses
  • Demonstrate mastery in middle school benchmarks
  • Complete a semester career planning course or the equivalent integrated through the M/J Geography: Europe and the Americas course
  • Initiate an electronic Personal Education Planner (e-PEP)
Effective this school year, grades for annual middle school courses will be calculated and finalized by semesters. To pass an annual course, students must earn at least two quality points per semester. Students with at least two quality points will be assigned a final semester grade based on the average of two, nine-week grades. Students who do not earn the minimum quality points must make up the corresponding semester of the course

Quality points are based on the following nine-week grading scale

90% - 100%
80% - 89%

70% - 79%
